IVF Medications- Stimulation drugs
Our stimulation drug was Gonal F, on first glance I definitely thought this would be easier than the down reg jab, mainly because it was a preloaded pen, what can go wrong eh?
Then I really looked at it, at over £300 a pen and full of 900IU of wonderful ovary growing stuff I didn't want my clumsy side to kick in and me to balls it up. Watch the YouTube videos they will help!
So once you take the cap off and screw the needle on you adjust it to the dosage set by your clinic. The next instruction seemed pretty simple, insert needle in to tummy, hold pen plunger down until the ticker ticks down to zero, count to 5 and pull it out, easy right? Not the first one!
Prepped it, checked it twice, yes it's the right dose, OH is filming for me to send to my mammy. Inner monologue is pumped - Yeah you've got this! On to the next step, this will be a walk in the park after the one you draw up with the big scary needle... I think I got a little bold!
Pinch the skin, slide the needle in, bit stingy but nothing too taxing. Swivel it round because I can't see the numbers, try not to think about the swivelling *shudder!*
Ok press the top, the numbers aren't going down, look at OH who isn't great with the needles in me, why aren't the numbers going down! A little bit of panic kicks in and I take it out, I have unsuccessfully jabbed! Now I am a bit sweaty and a bit (lot) tense. Check YouTube video, have to proper press end! Bugger!! OK again, needle back in, swivel (yuck!), press end - oh you have to actually press it quite hard! But the numbers are ticking down, get to zero, remember to breathe, count to 5 and done! Finally our first stim drug is done - little emotional moment as I definitely made that trickier than it needed to be!
Apart from some pinching and little bruisy bits they were plain sailing after this and we definitely still giggle over me double jabbing for no need whatsoever!
If I can do this, you most certainly can! ♡
